Well... today was filled, once again, with working on things--like studying for the GRE. I've never seen a longer vocab list with more words I had never seen before. It's going to be a long five days, folks.
But, I did put the pizzas in the oven tonight, and I did take them out. And I did cut them.
And I posted a devotion on my other blog. I guess that's something.
God bless!

Day 214
I did some dishes today. Really it was a day of working on my own stuff.
There was much laughter in the kitchen tonight while supper was being prepared. And part of that was my "fault." I was doing a silly dance while talking about something that was happening in my book that I'm writing. I'm simply giddy about these events.
It was a good evening in that regard.
God Bless!

Day 213
I had the house to myself today. So I didn't do a whole lot other than writing, and that was nice. (Okay, there were plenty of distractions, but my goal was to write and read a lot.)
I did tidy up the kitchen this evening--it's due for another deep clean already. Good news, the ants are gone! Woo! That was an exciting revelation. :)

Days 211 and 212
Day 211:
When a friend's dad dies, you go to the visitation if you can't make the funeral. And you hug her, offering: your support, your love, your strong arms. You feel sick because you realize that you could be the one mourning the loss...after all, your dad lost his dad when he was your age. And that thought sickens you. So you pray for your friend--for healing. And you pray for your dad--for health.
Day 212:
Today, I was Mom's chauffeur again. I took her to the doctor's appointment she forgot she scheduled a year ago. I take her to Walmart to get some fresh produce and bottled water.
I was able to go get my scholarship check today. And for an hour I listened to Mr. Stueven talk about various things: his druggy daughter (that I can see still pains him), his late wife (that I can see he still mourns), the drama in running a foundation (that I am thankful he endures), health problems of a friend (that I don't mind the details of because I know it's a big part of his life now), and his issues with relying on computers (that I can understand).
Bible study tonight, which was good and encouraging. Praise God for fellow believers.

Days 208, 209, and 210
I haven't posted because I haven't been home using my own time really. But I'll explain that in a bit. :)
Day 208:
Friday. The day that I packed up my overnight bag and my precious manuscript to go on a short road-trip.
And I drove the hour and 15 to converse with my fellow writers and offer and receive encouragement. The gift of laughter is a beautiful thing--a contagious thing. And when a little girl named Nora learns how to fly with pot-holders, you can't help but smile. 4:30 rolled around all too quickly and I had to leave that farmhouse full of vegetables, love, imagination, creativity, and beauty.
My journey carried me 30 minutes further east, to the home of a dear friend. It was there that spent some much needed time with said friend--loving the food and company and activity.
Day 209:
Saturday. A continuation of Friday. A sleepy friend that was up at least three hours past her bedtime slept soundly while I pulled out the notebook and pen and quietly worked on a story not wanting to disturb her from my nest on the floor. Over two hours I worked away silently. When finally she tumbled out of her dreamscape, we sipped coffee and ate oatmeal over open laptops and books and paper...though neither of us got much accomplished because of our chatty nature when together.
Day 210:
I taught Children's Church today--and vacuumed afterwards due to the mess some little boys made with the crackers. (Never underestimate the mess oyster crackers can make.)
And then followed the usual household chores.
God Bless!

Day 207
It was a day of sewing, that is for sure. And there was the ritual dinner making.
But before that began, it was a morning of catching up with a dear friend. And knowing that between the words there was finally an understanding that was lacking in high school. She's changed--in a very good way. And I've changed too. The things that once mattered don't hold sway anymore. "And you will transformed by the renewing of your mind..." and perhaps that verse is the story of her summer. Finally, I feel comfortable enough to tell her that she has changed. It takes a second for me to realize it was something she needed to hear. Those seeds that were once sown--not necessarily by me--are now bearing fruit.
God Bless!

Days 205-206
Day 205:
I don't know why I didn't post yesterday. I'm slacking, sorry. Well, I went on an ant-killing spree. We have ants in our kitchen...and the bathrooms...and really anywhere with the house that has a drain. It's a nuisance. So I went through and cleaned the kitchen. And I mean cleaned the kitchen--we're talking vinegar solution on the counters and in the baking cabinet and on the floor and then clorox everywhere. It was intense. And in the evening, when I had the help of the guys, I dumped huge pots of mint tea down all the drains. Hopefully it will work.
I also helped my cousin Kaitlin come up with a list of authors for her eleventh graders next year. Now that was fun. :)
Day 206:
Today is a blur, honestly. Uh... what did I do today? Oh, I made a bag that my cousin Sarah ordered, that was good.
Also, I redressed my mom's bandage and made her a shake for lunch.
I made sweet potatoes for dinner.
It was good day. :)
God Bless!

Day 204
Sorry I didn't post last night, I'm not sure what happened, actually.
We had a family reunion yesterday, and, as always, it was a lot of fun. I really enjoy spending time with my Dad's side of the family -- not that I don't like Mom's family, but there are fewer names to remember on Dad's side. As is tradition, we played the grab bag game...and I gave a lot of my little kid items to little Kaitlin (not be to confused with my first cousin, big Kaitlin). Little Kaitlin got quite the pull this year because everyone was giving her the things that a little girl should have. :)
When we got home we ordered some take out food, which my brother went in to retrieve after getting water and a movie.
It was a great day. Lots of family time, and a few hours on the road (perfect time and space for reading).
God Bless!

Day 203
Laundry today. And dishes. Lots of dishes.
I made lunch for my brother and I -- pita pizzas again, but we had leftovers and they're easy.
And I helped with dinner too!
Lastly, I just wrapped a ton of stuff for the grab bag game for tomorrows family reunion. Woo!

Day 202
Today was another crazy one.
I took Mom to Physical Therapy and waited with her for over half an hour to see her therapist, and then waited another half hour for her treatment. It was a lot of waiting, but definitely interesting to see some the the different activities they have her do.
And then we went and got lunch with the ladies of the family--so much fun!
We went shopping. Oh man, did we go shopping. And as always, got way more than we intended to buy.
Mom has inherited yet another one of my drier mishaps--I'm annoyed at how many things drastically shrink when you apply heat. Thank God she has a shorter torso than me, and I can pass things down to her. (Kind of crazy, but it happens.)
I made Pita Pizzas for supper tonight! It's becoming a favorite--and with good reason! Everyone gets to pick their own toppings and it just tastes so good!
My uncle and a mutual friend was over in the evening, so I did quite a bit of house cleaning before they arrived -- moving the sewing stuff and loading the dishwasher and moving clothes and shoes.
So yes, a crazy day to say the least.

Days 198-201
So, here's the deal, the reason I haven't been posting this week isn't because I haven't been giving. No...I've been dealing with shady internet connection. Yes, in fact, for the better portion of this week I haven't really had internet at all. That means that you get basically a whole weeks worth giving in one post! Yay! .... haha. Let's get started.
Monday (Day 198):
It was my last day of house sitting! Woo! I washed the sheets (put them in in the morning, flipped them over my lunch) and vacuumed and did all kinds of things. I was also helping out at my mom's job (a furniture store) because of her surgery. I got the rental car all ready to return, got that turned in. Went back to my cousin's house with Dad to put the finishing touches on the house--I saved back some cupcakes for her and her parents.
Tuesday (Day 199):
I took Mom to get her haircut and styled in the morning. We went and got coffee. I rented us a couple movies, that was fun. Mostly I spent the day catering to Mom and making sure she was doing okay.
Wednesday (Day 200):
I didn't post one a big day! Ah, man!
I worked at the store again. It was nutty, but fun. I answered the phone a lot, and directed some people. I got home and talked to Mom about the happenings there. I think she liked hearing about what was going on with various pictures and lamps and stuff. I also had a phone-date with my professor, and that was lovely--perhaps not so much me giving (except for the writing) as much as receiving (accepting advice and wisdom).
Thursday (Day 201):
I worked at the store again today. My cousin came in with her folks, and I looked at chairs with them and stuff (lamps and pictures, and things related to elephants). I went to the store with Dad again -- we're a power team, for real.
We'll see what happens tomorrow. :)

Day 197
I taught Children's Church this morning for the Kindergarten and First Graders. It was a lot of fun - and while we talked about a story I've heard a million times, it was as much a time of learning for them as it was for me.
Josef was a big help at keeping the kids in their seats during story time. After we were done at church I took him to lunch and work (conveniently the same place).
I picked up pizza for the family after waiting around for Josef to get off work - they kept him an hour and a half late.
God Bless!

Day 196
Today I went to the store with Dad, and we divided and conquered, let me tell you! I've never actually gone shopping with just Dad before, but Mom is out of commission for a while so it's just the two of us cooking and cleaning and shopping. (Josef helps quite a bit, too.)
After we were done at HyVee I went to Walmart to get a couple things that HyVee doesn't carry.
Spent the afternoon at home, and helped make dinner.
Then I went to the other Walmart to get the things that weren't added to list.
Three trips to the stores today.
God Bless!

Day 195
Mom had surgery today.
I waited around in the morning for the phone call that she was heading home.
I went and rented a couple movies for the family to watch (trying to find one we would all enjoy is hard).
When I got home, I spent the day replacing ice packs, pushing pain meds on a reluctant patient (even though she was in pain), I helped her get her food, and I even helped her with the bathroom and getting dressed. It's hard not having both arms functional.
So, here's to the beginning of a few difficult weeks.
God bless!

Days 193 and 194
Day 193:
I took my brother home yesterday (and delivered the family laundry). Honestly, my days have been spent with limited to no human interaction.
Day 194:
Today I went over to Sara's house to sew and brought her a hot chocolate. After we were done with our sewing date, I ran by Mom's work to pick up a letter to be mailed and provided the stamp for it. It was a good day.

Went home to pick up Josef for Bible Study and picked up some laundry to dry for Mom as well.

Days 190 and 191
Day 190:
We had a party for family and a few friends to celebrate the Fourth (on the third). It was a lot of fun, and meant a lot of prep work. I made another batch of cupcakes and cut up watermelon for Mom. I also went to the store and got some ice and water. It was a crazy day, but a lot of fun.
Day 191:
As a family we went to Seward to celebrate in Nebraska's Fourth of July City, which is always a treat. When we got home, I ran to the store for Mom (again) and got milk and butter. Another good day.

Day 189
Woo, what a day!
I took Mom to work this morning and went back to house sitting: picking up firework litter in the yard, mowing the lawn (and adapting to the in-town methods), and do some tidying up in the house as well.
(I fed the cats too.)
Picked Mom up from work and went to the store - it's going to be a crazy weekend. Got home-home and after eating a quick supper, I went to work on my cupcakes. Not going to lie, I'm pretty excited about these, and they'll be great for our party tomorrow night. Red Velvet and White Cake swirls with a cream cheese frosting that's been dyed blue. It's going to be wonderful and patriotic.
Our dryer at home is broken, so I've been toting loads of wet clothes to my cousins to dry... it's been a pain, to say the least. But otherwise my family would be running around nude, and that is not ideal. Ha.

Day 188
Well, today I picked my mom up from work and took her to the store.
And I chilled out with the family tonight. There was a lot of laughter.
Also, I gave my Daddy a hug before bed....and how I've missed those hugs....it's good to be home.

Day 187
I really didn't see anyone yesterday. I've kind of turned into a hermit.
I would have gone to the store with my mom, but I had just gotten food and so she took my brother.
I did continue to do house work here, and I made another bag.
God Bless!
